Youth Summer Bike Camp is a great way for young riders to gain confidence and knowledge in an environment of encouragement! Through activities tailored to the individual’s skill level, campers will be empowered with safe cycling abilities as well as stronger awareness on topics such as health & wellness, air quality issues and eco-friendly arts. Come join us for this empowering journey that emphasizes fun along every step of the way!
Here is a sample schedule to get an idea of what campers will experience at Youth Summer Bike Camp:
Day 1: Orientation to the values of El Grupo, bikes, bike mechanics, and bike safety. And we ride!
Day 2: On-the-bike skills sessions and nutrition activities.
Days 3 & 4: Bike rides! With lots of skills training along the way, recycled art, health & clean air activities.
Day 5: Bike ride to group “Goal Destination” and Graduation Celebration!
El Grupo Youth Cycling was loosely formed in 2004 by Ignacio Rivera de Rosales and Daniela Diamente. We began with no budget, no place to meet, no team bikes, no uniforms—really nothing but spirit and enthusiasm. Starting with eight not particularly athletic youth who just wanted to ride bikes (as part of an elective class at City High School), the group’s first big ride was the Tour of the Tucson Mountains. It took almost three hours for the riders to make it across 27 miles, but they did it and it was the biggest, proudest physical achievement of their lives.
